About The Author

Michael J. SwansonMr. Swanson has been a senior level executive in the law firm finance industry since 2000, when he became co-owner, Chief Executive Officer and a member of the Credit Committee of Advocate Capital, Inc..  His daily role at Advocate covers a wide range of activities including sales management, strategic planning, credit underwriting, marketing, public relations and advertising.  His experience at Advocate has given him an intimate knowledge of the law firm finance industry.  When you spend over a decade reading the tax returns and financial statements of law firms every day, you can’t help but learn a few things!

Since 1999, Mr. Swanson has also been President and a Member of Wellgen Standard LLC, a private equity firm.

Prior to Wellgen and Advocate, Mr. Swanson was Vice President and General Manager of Champion America, Inc., a firm he and his current business partner Dan A. Taussig founded in 1989.  He was Champion’s first employee and during his decade there he held a variety of positions until its successful sale in 1999 to Brady Corporation, Milwaukee, WI (NYSE:BRC).

Mr. Swanson attended The Ohio State University and Cleveland State University.

In addition to his activities at Advocate Capital, Inc., Mr. Swanson is a frequent lecturer at seminars and trial lawyer meetings nationwide, focusing on financial management and operational excellence at trial law firms.

Mr. Swanson has been married to his lovely wife and former high school sweetheart, Tracy, since 1983.  They have two grown children, Adam and Emily.  In his (limited) spare time he enjoys being with his family, reading and eating sushi.  He is also an amateur musician (guitar and keyboards) and is a student of the Spanish language.
